Adoption Top Tips

When it comes to rehoming, a little bit more time researching the animals that are available and telling us more about yourself may speed up your adoption process.

Adopting a new animal is very exciting and completing an application form is the first step to welcoming a new companion into your home. Our animal care teams are very thorough, making sure they match our animals to the most suitable adopters. All animals have specific needs which are important to consider when applying. This is why it may take a little longer for our rehoming arrows to fly and match-make our animals to their perfect fur-ever home!

Before applying to adopt an animal, there are a couple of things you can do to show you are a good match for the animal you're hoping to offer a forever home to.

Research

Before making a decision about getting a pet, research what animal/breed might be best for you, your family and home life.

If you see an animal online that you like, you should always read their profiles. You can do this by clicking on their photograph. If you are not online, you can call us on 01825 880468, or pop in and someone will be happy to help.

Profiles tell you about an animal’s past, their quirks and their individual needs. You can also check if they can live with other animals or children or if they need extra training.

Tell us about you

In your application, you can tell us about yourself and why you would be a good match. We love to hear about your experience with animals, for example, what training you’ve done, the breeds you’ve owned and whether you’re prepared to take on an animal who might need extra help settling in.

Considering the animal’s needs and telling us how you can support them will show us that you’re dedicated to keeping them safe and cared for.

Your age isn’t a barrier to adoption, it’s more about being able to demonstrate that you are able to provide the best environment for your potential new pet.

Be patient

Due to the high volume of enquiries we receive, we regret that we are not able to respond to every application. However, if you are initially unsuccessful, and you spot another animal later, there is no need to submit another application form, just email us at info@raystede.org to highlight your interest.
