Parrots stolen

Two African Grey parrots were callously stolen from Raystede centre on the night of Sunday the 17th of February when a large hole was cut in an aviary. Staff at the centre are very concerned for the welfare of the two birds as they are quite nervous and part of a long-standing colony. Both of the stolen birds were close companions with different birds and all will be feeling disorientated, frightened and may well suffer physically as a result. Not only were the birds stolen but a gaping hole was left which could have meant the other parrots in the aviary escaping and in the cold weather would quickly deteriorate and die.

Nigel Mason, General Manager at Raystede said 'We would ask anyone who might know something about this to contact us or the Police with any information. Maybe someone you know has recently acquired two African Grey parrots, or is trying to sell them? It is vital the birds are found as they have special requirements and will suffer without proper care.'

Mayo WynneBaxter

Many thanks go to the staff of Mayo Wynne Baxter Solicitors, Lewes for raising £311 as a donation to Raystede after having dress-down days at their offices last year. Every Friday over the last few months, staff have been "dressing down" in return for a donation to the charity. Lara Squires, Business Development Manager at Mayo Wynne Baxter presented the resulting cheque to Nigel Mason, General Manager of Raystede on Tuesday 8 January. Nigel said, "We are very grateful to the staff of Mayo Wynne Baxter for helping us. Some of the money will be used to purchase a digital camera for our Grand Prize Draw to be held on Sunday 29th June and the rest will help fund a new outdoor kennel run project due to start this Spring."
